Creating a website is not just about slapping any web design on it and hoping to make the best out of it. You do have to pay particular attention to design elements if the site will be for business activities. The field of website design is pretty huge, but we will just cover some very important points to steer you in the right direction.
Getting your site navigation right so it flows well is something to give a lot of thought. Site planning is tremendously important because you do not want your site looking like the navigation was an after-thought.
There are millions of examples of both good and bad site designs with regard to the navigation design. How easy and intuitive your navigation is will affect the area known as usability, and that is something every site has to get right. The navigation must be out of sight when not needed, or not thought about – but easy to see and use when it is needed. If you look around, most of the successful sites know how to keep their designs simple. But the final decision really depends on what your site will be about and what needs to be present. You have to ensure that whatever you do, the design should be minimalistic in nature and there shouldn’t be anything unnecessary. One excellent practice is to draw pictures of your site so you can get a good idea of how it will look. If you already know that you will display advertisements, then they have to be accounted for in the layout. Besides this, creating a professional site is all about keeping things simple, so why complicate it?
Register Alternate Domains: If you want to ultimately protect your brand and identity you should register different, alternate versions of your domain names with a bunch of different extensions. This step allows you to put up protectors against those who would take advantage of your success and the free similar domains. Although it isn’t actually a part of your website’s design, this step can help you protect yourself against losing important visitors. All that you need to do then is set up the domains to re-direct to your main site, which is something that all of the bigger companies do when they want to protect their brands and raise awareness of their websites. For example, don’t just register the .com, register the .org and .net as well to make sure that you are covered in the three most popular extensions. This helps you make sure that you won’t have any competition from those domains within the search engines. We think most web designers are never totally happy with their work because they always see things they want to improve upon. On the other hand, there is the saying that if it is not broke, then don’t fix it.
